That’s it, Gareth Southgate’s time as England manager is at an end after nearly eight years, and he leaves with a strong record.

The now former Three Lions gaffer announced in a statement on Tuesday that he would be leaving his role after more final heartbreak.

Southgate could never get England over the line, but he made a lot of positive impact on the national team

England were beaten 2-1 in the Euro 2024 final in Berlin to stretch the trophyless run to 58 years.

That game proved to be Southgate’s last in charge, and he’s ready to hand over the reins to someone else.

However, he can look back at his time with pride and leaves with one of the best records of any England manager.

What was Southgate’s record with England?

In total, Southgate managed 102 games as the England gaffer.

He won 61 of those and lost 17 across his tenure.

In the time he was in charge, the Three Lions scored 213 goals and conceded 72.

England qualified for every major tournament under the ex-Middlesbrough manager and made it to at least the quarter-finals in all of them.

Southgate provided some moments that will live in England fans’ memories for some time

His first game came in October 2016 against Malta, and England won 2-0.

His last match was the Euro 2024 final in July 2024 which Spain won 2-1.

In between those games, England made it to the World Cup semi-finals in 2018, only to lose 2-1 to Croatia.

The Three Lions also reached the final of Euro 2020 and lost on penalties to Italy at Wembley.

However, England also managed to win three penalty shootouts during his time, which was something the Three Lions had been so poor at for so long, losing seven of their previous eight before Southgate.
