Glenn Hoddle believes Raheem Sterling would be making a “big mistake” if he left Liverpool for Real Madrid at the end of the season.
The Reds winger has been linked with a move to the Bernabeu in the summer, after failing to agree a new deal at Anfield.
Although Streling will still have two years left to run on his contract, Brendan Rodgers may opt to cash in the 20-year-old, if he has made his intentions to leave clear.
But former England boss Hoddle claims the youngster should stay under the Northern Irishman’s tutelage.
“Raheem Sterling is a young man and very talented player,” he told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast show.
“His head is in a spin at the moment and you can see it in his game. It’s not what it was two or three months ago. There’s something going on in his mind. The quicker they get that done [the better].
“He could make a very big mistake going abroad. It would be far too early for the lad. He’s found his home for the next few years.
“He’s proved what he can do, and should improve on that at Liverpool. He can get even better. It’s not just about the finances.”
