Harry Redknapp has told talkSPORT Glenn Hoddle has the ‘class and vision’ to rebuild and reunite the England team following their embarrassing Euro 2016 exit.

The Three Lions were dumped out of the tournament by minnows Iceland – the smallest nation to ever compete in the European Championship finals – following a 2-1 defeat in Nice on Monday night.

Manager Roy Hodgson wasted little time in announcing his resignation in his post-match press conference, where he read an already prepared statement and then refused to face any questions from the awaiting media.

It leaves the Football Association with a big decision to make ahead of their upcoming World Cup qualification campaign, and Redknapp believes former England and Tottenham boss Hoddle is the ‘perfect’ man for the job.

“I would bring Glenn Hoddle back in to manage the England team,” said Redknapp, speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast.

“I think he’s got class, he knows the game, he’s got a vision of how he wants to play and he’d work with the players.

“The problem is we’ve got no identity to how we play. We don’t have a system.

“How do England play? I don’t know really. Teams change and system changes from game to game. We didn’t go into the competition with a settled team. There was no pattern.

“I’d go back to Glenn, I think he’d be perfect.”

Gareth Southgate is the early favourite to be promoted from Under-21 coach to senior manager, although there have been reports the FA could again look to a foreign boss to take the team forward.

On the speculation, Redknapp added: “Gareth Southgate is a good man. I like him, but he hasn’t really got the experience.

“Gareth is the red hot favourite, but how is he more qualified than a Sam Allardyce or Steve Bruce?

“They’ve been around and managed at top levels for years and done good jobs with clubs, why don’t they get it?

“But I think we’ve got the perfect man, Glenn Hoddle fits the bill for me. I know he’s lost the job before, but that was a long time ago and I think now he’s ready and deserves another chance.”

Asked if he’d be tempted by the job, Redknapp laughed in response: “I’ve got no chance! I don’t fit the bill for the FA.

“The game is being run by academics at the top level. [FA director of elite development] Dan Ashworth will choose the next manager again… maybe there’s someone at West Brom we can get in, you know?”
