Glenn Hoddle has revealed he had talks with FA technical director Dan Ashworth but was not offered an interview for the England managerial job.

Hoddle was previously Three Lions boss for three years, leading them at the 1998 World Cup, but was dismissed after controversial comments in the press.

With the role vacant again, there were calls for Hoddle to get another chance but, after Sam Allardyce was given the job, he confirmed he had not been interviewed for the post.

He told the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast: “I had a conversation with and a phone call with Dan Ashworth post-Euros about my ideas, what went wrong but I think they were just plunging into everyone’s [thoughts] and just getting some feedback.

“The interview call didn’t come and that was fine by me but I thought I definitely would have gone to see the FA again.

“I did it [the job] once before and had a decent record and it’s obviously very unusual to get somebody who has had the England manager’s seat before and experience it and then go back again. Other countries have done it, so yeah, I’m slightly disappointed that I didn’t get the chance to talk to them but the main thing now is I hope Sam Allardyce does really well.”

But Hoddle then insisted he is not desperate for a return to management.

He added: “At the moment I’m not desperately looking to get back in at a club manager, no. I’m enjoying what I’m doing.

“I’ve always said, from my point of view, never say never in football, there is no doubt about that, but I’m happy working in TV. Over the last three year I’ve worked on every [England] international game and I enjoy working on the Premier League too, it’s exciting. It’s lovely going to see every team in the league.”
