Glenn Hoddle is ‘seriously ill’ in hospital after collapsing at the BT Sport studios on his 61st birthday.

The Tottenham legend and former England manager was due to appear as a pundit on the BT Sport Score show, which was scheduled to air at 2:45pm.

But several of his BT colleagues have revealed Hoddle fell ill ahead of the show, which was cancelled as a result.

Hoddle had appeared on Saturday Morning Savage alongside Robbie Savage on Saturday morning, between 11:30 and 12:30, which saw him receive a birthday cake and play ‘Teqball’ – a football/table tennis game – with the ex-Premier League star.

But the former midfielder is said to have collapsed in the studios between his morning and afternoon appearances, and was taken to hospital in a serious condition.

News of Hoddle’s condition was shared on social media by the likes of fellow broadcasters Jake Humphrey and Gary Lineker, who shared their well wishes to the ex-England boss.

Hoddle is regarded as one of the most talented players to represent England in recent decades.

As well as Tottenham, where he stayed for 12 years and became a club icon, he also played for Monaco and Chelsea.

He  also managed England between 1996 and 1999, taking the team to the 1998 World Cup, as well as managerial spells at Chelsea, Southampton and Spurs.

Hoddle enjoyed a celebrated career at Spurs, winning two FA Cups and the UEFA Cup

Since quitting management in 2004, he has been a regular pundit and commentator.

He was a pundit for BT Sport’s Europa League coverage of Arsenal vs Sporting on Thursday and was set for a busy day in the pundit’s chair again on Saturday before falling ill.

Former clubs Tottenham and Chelsea were among those sending their best wishes to the 61-year-old.
