Tottenham legend Glenn Hoddle admits he can’t quite believe that Spurs have reached the last four of the Champions League.

The north Londoners welcome Ajax to their new stadium on Wednesday night for the first leg of their semi-final clash.

Tottenham warm up ahead of the huge clash

It’s the first time Tottenham have been in a Champions League semi-final, although they did reach the last four of the European Cup in 1962 before it was rebranded, losing out to eventual winners Benfica.

After amassing just one point from their opening three group games, it was a minor miracle that Spurs even escaped the group, but two incredible knockout triumphs over Borussia Dortmund and Manchester City have put them within touching distance of history.

“I’m pinching myself, like the fans out here!” Hoddle told BT Sport.

“It’s fantastic and they deserve it after that performance up at City. They deserve to be here.”

Tottenham will have to make-do without their two biggest goal threats, with Harry Kane injured and Heung-min Son suspended for the first leg.

Ajax can no longer be considered underdogs after downing European giants Real Madrid and Juventus on their route to the semi-final, but Hoddle still believes his former club have an incredible opportunity.

He added: “There’s not a lot between these two teams, either. So they [Spurs] are in with a very good chance.”
